About Albufeira

Malta’s nightlife is centred around one main area, but there are a couple of different vibes depending on what you’re after:

 Paceville (St. Julian’s)
This is where the madness happens.

Packed streets, cheap drinks, open-front bars, and clubs all within stumbling distance of each other. You’ve got everything from wild bar crawls to big-name venues like Sky Club, Havana, and Toy Room.

Think: zero sleep, non-stop music, and “we’ll just have one more” energy every night.

Sliema & Valletta
More chilled but still vibey.

Cocktail bars, rooftop spots, wine bars, and boujee dinners before a night out. Perfect for a classier evening or a recovery night when Paceville nearly finished you off.

Beach Clubs & Boat Parties
Malta does day drinking VERY well.

Pool parties, boat parties, and beach clubs are a must-do. Expect DJs, drinks in the sun, and questionable decisions before 3pm.

Party Hard Tip:
Stay near St. Julian’s or Sliema for easy access to Paceville — taxis are cheap, but walking distance is elite after a long night.

Malta International Airport is around 20–30 minutes from most party areas.

Your options:

Private transfers:
Best for groups. Easy, stress-free, straight to your hotel.

Taxis/Ubers (Bolt is big in Malta):
Cheap, quick, and reliable. Usually €15–€25 depending on where you’re staying.

Buses:
Very cheap but slow and not ideal with luggage (or hangovers).

Best option for party holidays?
Taxi or Bolt. Cheap enough and zero hassle.

Malta is generally very safe, but as always:

  • Paceville gets VERY busy and messy late at night
  • Pickpockets can operate in crowded clubs/bars
  • Don’t leave your stuff unattended at beach clubs or on boats
  • Watch out for overly friendly strangers offering random drinks

Stick with your group, keep your phone close, and you’ll be sound.

Is there a tourist tax?

Yes — but it’s small.

Around €0.50 per person per night, usually capped at about €5 for your stay.

Nothing major, but worth knowing before check-in.

Is there a tourist tax in Malta?
Yes. Malta charges an Environmental Contribution.

How much is it?
For stays before 1 July 2026, it is €0.50 per adult, per night, capped at €5 per adult per stay.

Who pays it?
Guests aged 18+.

Is it included in my booking?
No. It is paid locally to your accommodation, usually at check-in or check-out.

Do children pay it?
No, under-18s are exempt.

Alongside your usual:

  • EU plug adapters
  • Comfy trainers or sandals (you’ll walk a lot)
  • Swimwear x3 minimum (trust us)
  • Portable fan — it gets HOT
  • Cross-body bag for nights out
  • Sunglasses & SPF (non-negotiable)
  • Light layer for breezy evenings

Bonus:
Waterproof phone case for boat parties = lifesaver.

Malta is fairly affordable for a party destination.

Rough guide: €50–€80 per day

  • Pints: €3–€6
  • Cocktails: €7–€12
  • Club entry: often free or small fees
  • Taxis/Bolt: €5–€15

Party Hard Tip:
Prebook your events (boat parties, club nights) so your spending money is just for drinks, food, and chaos.

Malta runs late:

  • Bars: until 2–4am
  • Clubs: until 5–6am
  • Paceville gets busy around 10–11pm
  • Peak time: midnight to 3am

Day drinking is also a big thing here… so pace yourself (or don’t).

Just keep it sensible:

  • Drinking in the street happens but don’t take it too far
  • Noise is more controlled outside of Paceville
  • Don’t accept random drinks from strangers
  • Respect locals — it’s not just a party island

Stick to bars, clubs, and official events, and you’ll have a week you won’t forget (even if parts are a blur).
